In a recent development, the Indian Ministry of Information and Broadcasting has decided that the film Abir Gulaal, featuring Pakistani actor Fawad Khan alongside Indian actress Vaani Kapoor, will not be permitted to release in India.
This decision follows a tragic terror attack in Pahalgam that resulted in the deaths of 26 tourists, marking it as one of the most severe incidents in the region since the 2019 Pulwama attack. The incident took place in Baisaran, a beautiful meadow in Anantnag district, which is only accessible by foot or pony.
Originally scheduled for release on May 9, Abir Gulaal is a romantic comedy that had its trailer launched on April 1, highlighting themes of love and flirtation.
Directed by Aarti S Bagdi and produced by Vivek B Agrawal, Avantika Hari, and Rakesh Sippy, the film began shooting on September 29 of the previous year in the scenic locales of London, as announced by the production company Indian Stories. Filming continued in the UK throughout October and November.
Fawad Khan, a prominent figure in Pakistani cinema, made his Indian film debut in 2014 with Khoobsurat, a romantic comedy featuring Sonam Kapoor. This film was a loose adaptation of a 1980 classic. He later starred alongside Alia Bhatt and Sidharth Malhotra in the 2016 family drama Kapoor & Sons and was last seen in Karan Johar's Ae Dil Hai Mushkil, which also starred Ranbir Kapoor and Anushka Sharma.
